CNAs in Orlando: What can be done to be the best CNA?

Most CNA’s love what they do. Some people may look at their job as not important. CNA’s are a very important part of the health care team. They assist the nurse with many different tasks as bed pans, urinals, baths, and changing linen. These are all very important things to be done with a smile. Some people do not look at these “little things” as significant tasks; for patients and residents these are big things and make a huge difference in their lives when a caregiver does it with love and compassion. CNA’s can really make a difference when they do their job in a positive and loving manner. It’s great for a good Cna to hear patients say how glad they are when he/she worked the shift because he /she is so nice.

Most CNAs who are the best have some qualities in common:

Communication skills: CNAs must communicate effectively with nurses and patients. Good written and verbal communication skills are a must.

Patience: working with sick patients and the elderly requires being patient, calm and supportive.

Empathy and compassion: anyone working in the health care field should have empathy for others; CNA’s have to show compassion, care and good bedside manners that puts patients at ease.

Knowledge of some medical terminology: CNA’s need to know some vocabulary and medical terminology to be able to follow safety protocols and communicate effectively with other CNAs and nurses.

Flexibility: CNAs work with sick and elderly patients what requires significant flexibility. An approach that works for one patient may not work for another, so CNAs must be creative and flexible to adapt to different situations and personalities.
