Florida Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) in Florida provide essential hands-on care to patients under the supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN).

A CNA’s primary responsibility is to assist patients with activities of daily living while helping maintain a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment. CNAs can work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, rehabilitation centers, and private homes.

Core Responsibilities of a CNA

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): CNAs assist patients with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, oral care, and other personal hygiene needs.

Mobility and Transfers: CNAs help patients move safely by assisting with turning, repositioning, and transfers between beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers. Proper body mechanics and approved assistive devices are used when necessary.

Vital Signs: CNAs may measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration rate, and oxygen saturation.

Nutritional Support: CNAs assist patients during meals, provide feeding assistance when needed, and may measure and record food and fluid intake and output.

Patient Monitoring: CNAs observe patients closely and report important changes in physical condition, mental status, behavior, or skin integrity to the supervising nurse.

Maintaining a Safe Environment: CNAs help keep patient areas clean, organized, and safe. Responsibilities may include changing linens, organizing supplies, and making sure important items such as call lights are within the patient’s reach.

Documentation: CNAs accurately document the care they provide according to their employer’s policies. This may include recording vital signs, intake and output, patient behaviors, and other relevant observations while maintaining patient confidentiality.
