Florida CNA State Exam: What to Expect

The Florida CNA state exam includes two parts:

  1. A 60-question multiple-choice written or oral test with a 90-minute time limit
  2. A hands-on clinical skills exam

During the clinical portion, you will be asked to perform three randomly selected skills in a simulated environment. Handwashing and Indirect Care are always included, even though they are not verbally assigned.

To obtain your CNA license, you must pass both the written exam and each of the assigned clinical skills.

On exam day:

  • Arrive early.
  • Bring two forms of identification:
    • A government-issued photo ID with a signature
    • A second form of ID with your name and signature (such as a debit or credit card)
  • Follow all testing instructions and remain respectful toward staff and other candidates.
  • Personal items—including phones and electronic devices—are not permitted in the testing area.
  • Expect to be at the testing site for most of the day.

You may be asked to act as the “resident” while another candidate performs their skills test. Do not assist them in any way—helping another test-taker can result in failure for both of you.

Most candidates receive their results immediately after completing the exam.
